Medieval Beaker. Fifteenth century, and from Cologne. This beaker has a
band with a motto in low german, written in blackletter: "Scinct en drinkt en
god si gedinct", which translates: "Eat and drink and God be praised". Also
on this band of lettering are scallop shells (suggesting pilgrimage) and a
crown. The beakers are 10.4cm tall, have a rim diameter of 8.8cm and hold
just over half a pint (28cl). Price £30.00 each.
